Nairobi County Governor Johnson Sakaja has reiterated his commitment to transforming the city.

At the forefront of his agenda, he says, is the restoration of order in the capital through various initiatives, including weekly cleaning exercises in the Central Business District (CBD).

“Our priority is to ensure this city is clean,” said Governor Sakaja.

He is confident that the investments he is implementing will help achieve this goal, asserting, “Jiji la Nairobi litakuwa safi kabisa. It will be the cleanest city in Africa.”

Four major street cleaning initiatives have already taken place in the CBD, conducted on Sunday nights and led by the governor himself alongside members of the County Executive.

“This is expected to continue. The exercise will soon be rolled out in other areas outside of the CBD,” he added.

Governor Sakaja noted that the 3,500 ‘green army’ employees hired by the county are cleaning the city daily, with each team assigned specific areas to tackle, including unclogging drainages and street sweeping, to further advance the initiative.

The cleaning efforts are set to expand into sub-counties, which will also include greening initiatives.

In January this year, Governor Sakaja launched 24 refuse compact trucks to enhance garbage collection across the city.
