The Huawei DigiTruck programme is making significant strides in enhancing digital skills among Kenyans, particularly in underserved communities.

The Kenyan government and Huawei have reaffirmed their partnership to expand the DigiTruck initiative, ensuring ongoing support for digital skills training as part of Kenya’s broader digital transformation agenda.

Indeed, the DigiTruck programme has proven to be a vital resource for enhancing digital literacy among Kenyans, especially in remote areas. By providing accessible training and fostering community engagement, the initiative not only empowers individuals but also contributes to economic growth and development across the country.

As it continues to expand, the DigiTruck promises to play an essential role in bridging the digital divide in Kenya.

On Saturday, 6th December, Huawei Technologies, in partnership with local stakeholders, celebrated the graduation of 180 young individuals who have successfully completed the Huawei DigiTruck programme in Dagoretti South. Area Member of Parliament John Kiarie stated that the ceremony marks a significant milestone in empowering the next generation of tech leaders with the digital skills required to thrive in today’s fast-evolving ICT industry.

“In today’s world, no discipline stands alone independent of technology. If you think education, you have to think EduTech for education; for agriculture – AgriTech; for finance, FinTech; if you think health, you have to think HealthTech, and so on,” said  Kiarie.

The Huawei DigiTruck initiative aims to bridge the digital divide by providing accessible ICT training in underserved communities. Through the programme, participants gained vital skills in areas such as cloud computing, coding, and digital literacy, equipping them for the future of work in the technology sector, in line with the government’s agenda of building a digital workforce and economy.

During the programme, participants in the challenge developed solutions to address local community issues, demonstrating the power of technology to drive change.

“We are incredibly proud of the 180 graduates here today. Their dedication and passion for learning have positioned them to make meaningful contributions to the digital economy,” said Khadija Mohammed, the Media Director of Huawei Technologies.

“This is not just a graduation; it’s the beginning of a new chapter for these talented young people. Through the Huawei ICT Academy, they now have access to global opportunities that will help them continue growing and innovating in the ICT field,” she added.

Each DigiTruck session lasts approximately 40 hours and covers various topics, including cloud computing, coding, digital literacy, and soft skills such as job application techniques and online business management.

Launched in 2019 under Huawei’s TECH4ALL initiative, the DigiTruck is a mobile, solar-powered classroom designed to provide free digital skills training to youth in remote areas of Kenya. It travels to hard-to-reach communities, offering courses in essential digital skills.
