Kakamega: One dead, 11 admitted following outbreak of mysterious disease

One person has been reported dead while 11 others have been hospitalized following an outbreak of a mysterious illness in Mbaka village, Ikolomani Constituency, Kakamega County.

The family of the deceased, 26-year-old Faith Ilanda, who died after falling ill said that their kin died two after complaining chest pains headache and diarrhoea.

The hospitalized individuals are said to be exhibiting symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, chest pains, and extreme fatigue, among other symptoms that health workers are yet to fully identify.

Kakamega County Health Executive, Dr. Livingstone Mbai, stated that several patients have been admitted at Kakamega County Referral Hospital, where samples have been taken for further investigation.

Health officials say efforts are ongoing to contain the situation and have urged residents to remain calm and also register for Social Health Authority (SHA).

Locals have complained over delayed treatment due to the probke with sha which has led to people suffering in their homes without proper medication.
