The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) has reaffirmed its commitment to ensure products and goods meet market standards to build public trust and sustainable development.

KEBS Managing Director Esther Ngari, made the assurance during the ongoing International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Annual Meeting 2025 in Kigali, Rwanda.

She noted that Kenya is holding bilateral meetings with national standards bodies and trade partners from several countries, including Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Ethiopia, the United States, and China.

The Kenyan delegation comprises Kenya Bureau of Standards MD Esther Ngari, Eddy Njoroge, former ISO President and Caroline Outa, Chairperson, ISO Committee on Conformity Assessment (CASCO)

The global conference, bringing together ISO members, governance bodies, and key stakeholders, is being held under the inspiring theme “United for Impact”, a shared commitment to using standards as tools for progress, trust, and sustainable development.

“This participation underscores Kenya’s growing voice in shaping the global standards agenda and a commitment to our nation’s leadership and collaboration on the world stage. This is a very important forum, because Kenya is a member of the international standardization organization”, Ms Ngari said.

“ All members are here to discuss and deliberate on issues of international standards which are the passport for trade”, she added.

She emphasised that for any country to trade effectively, it must either develop or adopt international standards to enable its traders to access global markets.

The meeting comes ahead of World Standards Day, which will be marked next week on October 14, 2025.

“ We shall be holding the world’s standards day. World over, we celebrate the experts who develop standards and those who have dedicated their lives to standard development. Standards are the language of trust, the language of trade”. The KEBS boss stated.

On the proposed Standards Bill, 2025, she noted that public participation is ongoing in several counties to ensure the legislation addresses current market and trade needs, while also safeguarding consumer interests.

Members of the public are encouraged to submit written feedback via email at standardsbill@kebs.org before October 28, 2025.
