Kenya Airways has announced the appointment of Habil Waswani as the new acting chief executive officer and managing director with effect from September 15, 2026.
Waswani who is currently the airline’s corporate secretary and director of legal services takes over the role from George Kamal who has held the position in an acting capacity since December last year.
“Mr Waswani is a distinguished corporate and commercial legal practitioner with over 24 years of multisectorial experience and more than five years of service at the airline,” said KQ Chairman Kiprono Kittony in a notice to staff.
The changes come a week after the airline widened its full year losses to Ksh 16.1 billon despite revenue jumping by 9% to Ksh 81.3 billion from Ksh 74.5 billion posted last year.
Kamal who previously served the airline as the Chief Operating Officer for three years until his appointment as chief executive duties tendered his resignation barely eight months into the role due to personal reasons.
“The Board and management of the Company hereby express their gratitude to Captain Kamal for his diligence, service, leadership and dedication to the Airline over the years and wishes him the best in his future endeavours upon his formal exit on 30th September 2026,” Kittony added.
Kittony said while the board remains committed to the airline’s turnaround strategy, it has embarked on competitive recruitment process for a substantive chief executive.
Waswani holds Bachelor of Laws from the University of Nairobi and Global Executive MBA from United States International University (USIU).
