Kenya beats Burundi to book FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup ticket



The Kenya Under 17 women’s soccer team, Junior Starlets, beat Burundi 2-0 {5-0} on aggregate to qualify for the first time for the FIFA Under 17 women’s World Cup.

Kenya assured themselves iof the World Cup ticket following the 2-0 defaet of Burundi during the second leg of their fourth round qualifier held Sunday at Ulinzi Complex,Nairobi.

Carrying a healthy 3-0 first leg lead Kenya began the match brightly and could have gone ahead barely seconds after kick off when Lorna Faith’s long range effort went inches wide.

With unrelenting pressure on the visitors Marion Serenge,an outstanding player,fired Junuior Starlets into the lead when she scored an opener after 17 minutes capitalizing on a defensive mix up in Burundi goalmouth.

Burundi appeared to be out of sorts and failed to match Kenya’s urge for more goals and they did concede a second after Valerie Nekesa shook off her marker to slot home past an advancing Solange Manirakiza.

Starlets held onto the lead to qualify for the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup which will be held in Dominican Republic from 16th October to November 3rd.

Kenya alongside Zambia and Nigeria will represent CAF at the 8th edition of FIFA U17 World Cup. Kenya is also among four countries making their debut at the showpiece together with hosts Dominican Republic,Ecuador and Poland.
