Kenya is ready to host CHAN, says President Ruto

President William Ruto, has expressed satisfaction with the refurbishment of the Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani, ahead of next month’s 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

Ruto said this today when he inspected the newly renovated Kasarani Stadium in readiness to host CHAN Group A fixtures pitting Harambee Stars as well as the final on 30th August.

The stadium has undergone major upgrades to ensure full compliance with Confederation of African Football (CAF) and Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) standards ahead of the CHAN 2024 and the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027.

“Today, we can proudly say that we are going to host CHAN on August 3,” he said.

Speaking to Harambee Stars players, who are training for the tournament at the stadium, he said the government will fully support the national team.

The president urged the players to represent the country diligently and make Kenyans proud.

“We believe in you. We trust you. We believe in your capacity and potential, and we will proudly cheer you to victory,” President Ruto said.

The 8th CHAN tournament will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania between 2nd and 30th August.

Harambee Stars is set to open its campaign on the 3rd next month at Kasarani against two-time champion DRC before facing Angola, Zambia, and Morocco in other group A matches.

All other Group A fixtures will be staged at the Nyayo National Stadium.

Co-hosts Tanzania – Taifa Stars will play the tournament’s opening match at the Benjamin Mkapa stadium against Burkina Faso on 2nd August, while Uganda Cranes will kick off group C matches against Algeria on 4th next month at the Mandela Stadium Namboole.
