Kenyans in search of lost Turkana fishermen allowed to Ethiopia

The Kenyan team searching for over 20 fishermen who went missing following an attack at Todonyang village near Lake Turkana in Turkana County has been allowed access to Ethiopia.

According to Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, the team has already accessed the area of the incident and is searching for the missing persons and 15 boats.

On Monday, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen who toured Todonyang village formed a team led by the Regional Commissioner to negotiate with Ethiopian authorities to facilitate access to the Ethiopian side.

CS Murkomen said that diplomatic discussions in Nairobi between Kenyan and Ethiopian officials bore fruits on Tuesday evening, allowing the Kenyan team to search for the missing persons.

On Wednesday, the Kenyan contingent working with their Ethiopian counterparts is said to have started the search efforts.

The Government has called for calm while assuring the public that efforts are ongoing to restore normalcy and account for all missing persons.
