Wilkie Keragori and Naomi Wandili emerged victorious at the Boom and Thrive CSR Badminton Tournament held in Nanyuki last weekend , winning the men’s and women’s singles titles, respectively.
Both were also honoured as the Most Valuable Players in their respective categories.
The weekend tournament brought together teams including Nanyuki Ironclads, URF Shuttlers, MYSA Thunderbolts, Thika Club, Raptors, Falcons, and Thunders, all showcasing impressive skill and sportsmanship.
In the team event championship, URF Shuttlers from Nairobi secured the overall title after a dominant display throughout the competition.
Thika Club finished second to claim silver, while MYSA Thunderbolts of Nairobi completed the podium in third place.
Edward Muchiri Mburu, director of Woodcem Trading Company and Mazingira Recyclers Limited, stated that the event seeks to grow competitive badminton in Nanyuki, promote the sport among youth and adults, and strengthen grassroots programs in local schools.
The tournament featured the Nanyuki Ironclads, URF Shuttlers, MYSA Thunderbolts, Thika Club, Raptors, Falcons, and Thunders teams.
More than 200 players from Laikipia and its environs participated in the two-day tournament that was held.
Besides competition, the tournament provided a mentorship and leadership platform for the participants.
