President William Ruto has announced that the Phase Three of the salary review of the Kenya Prisons Service officers will take effect from 1st July 2026.

Speaking after presiding the 46th Passing out parade for 3,862 Kenya Prisons Service Recruits, at the Prisons Staff Training College, Ruiru, on Thursday, President William Ruto said the review follows the implementation of Phase I and Phase II of the salary review.

In the newest salary review, the entry pay for a prison constable rose by 36pc while the maximum point of the salary scale has grown by 24pc through a taskforce on prison and police officers reforms.

“Phase III of the salary review will take effect on 1st July, 2026. This is clear evidence of the government’s sustained resolve to improve the welfare and motivation of our correctional officers,” said the President.

He commended the Kenya Prisons Service for the notable progress made under the Greening Kenya Agenda that targets to plant 15 billion trees in the country by 2032.

President Ruto disclosed that the Kenya Prisons Service has already planted over 6.8 million trees, with another 1.87 million mature seedlings ready for transplanting.

He noted the national tree cover has risen to 12pc from 10pc five years ago, with the Prisons Department making a significant contribution.
