The Principal Secretary for Medical Services, Dr. Ouma Oluga has reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to expanding access to specialized healthcare, with a particular focus on cancer care.
He spoke during a visit at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) on Monday to assess the hospital’s ongoing transition and review progress on key infrastructure projects aimed at strengthening health service delivery in the region.
Dr. Oluga called for a review of the Comprehensive Cancer Centre’s structural plan to ensure timely completion of the project, which has received a Ksh 100 million allocation from the Government.
Once completed, the centre is expected to revolutionize cancer diagnosis, treatment, and research across the Lake Region, offering quality and affordable services to thousands of patients.
The PS was received by Acting CEO Joshua Okise, Senior Director of Nursing Teresa Okiri, and Senior Director of Administration and Finance Evans Oloo, who briefed him on the ongoing developments and commended the Ministry for its continued support in improving the hospital’s operational capacity.

Dr. Oluga was also briefed on the progress of the hospital’s transition process, including the finalization of Human Resource (HR) instruments, which will be submitted to his office this week.
He confirmed that the process of appointing a new hospital board is in its final stages and will be completed soon to enhance management efficiency and accountability.

The PS further assured that all hospital staff continue to enjoy full medical cover during the transition period, guaranteeing uninterrupted access to healthcare services and welfare support.
