A House team turned away the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) Commissioners for failing to adhere to the requirements of the summoning letter that invited them to appear before it.
The National Assembly Committee on Cohesion and Equal Opportunities chaired by Adan Yussuf Haji sent away the NCIC Commissioners Hon Eng. Philip Okundi and Mr Abdulaziz Ali Farah from a meeting that was intended to discuss matters of peace and cohesion.
The Committee, during the meeting held on Thursday, declined to listen to submissions by the Commissioners.
The probe team noted that that was the responsibility of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) who skipped the meeting.
“Procedurally, it is the CEO who is supposed to make the presentation to the Committee as per the communication to the Commission inviting you to the meeting,” stated Hon Haji.
The Mandera West MP added: “It is unjustifiable for the CEO not to attend such an important meeting and instead send commissioners.”
“I therefore rule that the Commissioners should go back. We have rescheduled the meeting to Tuesday next week where we expect the CEO to appear in person,” stated the chairperson.
The Committee had invited the NCIC team to appear before it to shed light about the programme on peace initiatives for the year 2025 and report on matters pertaining inter-community Cohesion.
Okundi apologized to the Committee over the failure by the CEO to appear.
“We will appear next week together with the CEO as directed,” he told the Committee.
