MCAs from 11 counties of Mt Kenya region have failed to agree on who to endorse as the regions focal point between Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Kindiki Kithure.
The MCAs from Laikipia, Nyandarua, Nakuru, Kirinyaga, Embu, Tharaka Nithi, Meru, Isiolo, Kiambu and Nairobi counties had convened at hotel in Murang’a apparently to discuss their welfare.
But even before the Meeting was concluded and the official statement read, a section of MCAs led by Kariara MCA Jeremiah Gichobe stormed out and addressed the media dismissing the agenda of the meeting saying they will not allow any leader to be imposed on the region.
Gichobe said the meeting was to discuss the agenda of the MCAs welfare and when they convened, it emerged that the conveners wanted them to support the idea that they should support the Interior CS so that they can get their welfare.
The MCAs claimed to have been duped that they were meeting to discuss their welfare,only to turn to an endorsement meeting.
Baragwi MCA from Kirinyaga David Mathenge also said that the MCAs welfare should be given without them being coerced to follow a certain political direction adding that they should not be blackmailed.
However, the official statement was read by Kirinyaga deputy Speaker Jenaro Njamumo who said that the MCAs have endorsed the statement by Mt Kenya region MPs to have Interior CS Kithure Kindiki as their link with the executive.
Njamumo said that the region has become a laughing stock by other regions for having tribal leaders adding that the region can do better than that.
Njeru, MCA from Tharaka Nithi said that the current leadership of the region should not trample on the others seeking to rise adding that the time for Kithure Kindiki to rise has come.
Isiolo Speaker Mohamed Roba said the County has decided to join Mt Kenya east region and thus they will be speaking the regions political, social and economic voice.
