Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has stated that while young people are free to critique the government, they should be cautious of leaders who may seek to exploit their numbers to incite chaos.

“It is not a mistake to encourage the youth to push for good governance. I ascribe to the same philosophy myself as this will grow our democracy,” said the CS.

He noted that if young people call out the government objectively on its shortcomings, it will strengthen governance and provide fresh impetus for economic improvement.

“The youth should be in the forefront in fighting graft and calling for good governance. This should be done without malice. The youth’s voices will be heard.” he said

However, he remained firm in his commitment to protect young people from being misused by leaders with ill intentions.

The CS was responding to media queries regarding former President Uhuru Kenyatta and his brother Muhoho Kenyatta’s calls for the youth to not remain silent but to fight for their rights.

CS Murkomen is currently on the first leg of the Jukwaa la Usalama counties tour in the Upper Eastern Region.

He is in Meru County, where issues such as banditry, human trafficking, boundary disputes, and drug abuse continue to pose significant challenges.
