The victims were members of the outlawed Good News International Ministries Church belonging to embattled Pastor Paul Nthenge Mackenzie who was arrested on April 15, 2023 and has since been under police custody.

They said the families did not have the money to transport the bodies of their loved ones as well as conduct the burial rites and thanked the government for the gesture.

At the same time, they asked the government to speed up the identification of bodies using DNA to enable families to bury their loved ones.

The bodies were released to the families by detectives led by the Director of the Homicide Division of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, Mr. Martin Nyuguto, who also accompanied the family members to Uasin Gishu, Vihiga and Busia Counties.
