The ODM grassroots elections have continued amid widespread claims of irregularities and exclusion in different counties.
In Mombasa, tension is rising as different factions within the ODM party gear up for the upcoming grassroots elections, slated for Wednesday. This comes barely hours after the said elections in Western and Nyanza regions were marred with violence that left three people seriously injured in Homa Bay.
The elections slated for Wednesday have seen tension rise with candidates alleging that some leaders had met in a hotel to choose candidates rather than holding a fair election.
In Migori County Joseph Olala, the ODM coordinator in the County stated that the nomination process in Suna West Sub-county was conducted according to the ODM party guidelines, despite complaints that the exercise did not involve ODM agents at the ward level.
This comes barely hours after the said elections in Western and Nyanza were marred with violence and confusion.
In Ndhiwa constituency, Homa Bay County, rival youth clashed, leaving three people injured and they are currently nursing injuries at the Homa Bay Teaching and Referral Hospital.
In a separate incident, two delegates died in a road accident while heading to the Kabunde polling station.
The vehicle they were traveling in collided with an oncoming lorry, leaving one survivor.
A total of 77 party officials are set to be elected at the sub-branch and branch levels across four committees: mainstream, women’s league, youth league, and disability league.
