Omanyala to lead Team Kenya for 7th World Athletics Relays

Commonwealth 100m Champion Ferdinand Omanyala, will lead Team Kenya for the 7th World Athletics Relays in Guangzhou, China, between the 10th and 11th next month.

Athletics Kenya named a team of 21 athletes for the championship today following the conclusion of the 1-day national trials at the Nyayo National Stadium.

Omanyala will lead the 4x100m men’s team, which also consists of his younger brother Isaac Omurwa, Meshack Babu, Mark Otieno, Steven Onyango and Moses Wasike.

800m World Champion Mary Moraa has been included in the 4x400m women’s team alongside KDF’s Mercy Adongo, who won the 400m final with the fastest time of 51.64 seconds, Esther Mbagari, Mercy Chebet, Lanoline Owino, Vanice Kerubo, Gladys Mumbe and Hellen Syombua.

2024 Africa Military Games champion Boniface Mweresa, was named in the 4x400m men’s team and will be joined by today’s 400m winner, Kevin Kipkorir, Brian Tinega, Allan Kipyego, Kelvin Kiprotich, David Sanayek and Wiseman Were.

Team Kenya will report to the residential training camp next Tuesday ahead of the championship, which will also be used as a qualifier for the World Athletics Championships set for Tokyo, Japan, in September this year.

Kenya will compete in the 4x100m Men, 4x400m Men and Women and 4x400m Mixed at the World Athletics Relays in Guangzhou, China.
