The National Police Service (NPS) has interdicted a police officer implicated in the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old boy in Shauri Moyo.
In a statement issued Wednesday evening, NPS said investigations began immediately after the incident and the officer involved has since been disarmed.
The NPS added that the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has been notified in line with legal procedures.
“Further open and transparent investigations are being conducted by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and the Internal Affairs Unit,” NPS Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga stated.
Meanwhile, tensions remained high in Shauri Moyo for the better part of Wednesday morning after youths set the local police station on fire and torched two police vehicles in protest disrupting transport in the area.
Police have appealed for calm and urged the public to cooperate with investigators and provide any information that could aid the probe.
“As a Service, we remain committed to our mandate of maintaining law and order,” NPS stated.
