The Confederation of African Football has confirmed that the CAF Confederation Cup final return leg between Tanzania’s Simba SC and RS Berkane of Morocco, will be played at the Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar.
In a communique to Tanzania Football Federation, CAF cited time constraints as the reason for not approving the use of Benjamin Mkapa Stadium for the 25th May match.
“CAF is grateful to the Tanzania Football Federation (‘TFF”), its President Wallace Karia and the Tanzania Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports for the meetings and discussions which took place, as well as their contributions and attempts in assisting the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium to comply with the CAF regulations and standards.
Unfortunately, due to time constraints, the report of the internationally respected, independent stadium assessment company concluded that the necessary repairs and upgrades at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium could not be completed in time for the hosting of the Second Leg of the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup 2024/25 Final, which is scheduled for 25 May 2025.
The statement clarified “As stated in an earlier media statement by CAF, the second leg will therefore take place at the Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar.”
Simba, who lost 2-0 in the first leg played last Saturday in Berkane, were hopeful to be buoyed by the home support at the Benjamin Mkapa stadium, with tickets already sold out for both VVIP and VIP areas.
Simba are playing in the final of the CAF Confed Cup for the first time, two years after their rivals Yanga lost to USM Alger in the same competition.
“CAF is committed to continue working together with the Tanzania Football Federation (‘TFF”), the Government of Tanzania and all other stakeholders to ensure that the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium and all other stadiums, infrastructure and facilities that are essential for the hosting of the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda 2024, are in compliance with the CAF Regulations and Standards. “The statement highlighted
The overall winners of the CAF Confed Cup final will be rewarded with USD 2 million, while the losing finalist will pocket USD 1 million.
