Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport, Davis Chirchir.

The government plans to clear all road pending bills by the first week of August this year.

Roads and transport Cabinet Secretary Davis Chichir says the government has raised Ksh 175 billion to clear all the pending bills that were registered before December 2024.

Chirchir has further told the Senate that the government has restarted stalled road projects in the current financial year.

As of December last year the Roads and Transport Ministry had pending bills in excess of Ksh 160 Billion that saw some road projects stall.

Kenya Roads Board (KRB) says it will clear the remaining 40pc of the roads pending bills after raising Ksh 175 billion through bond issue.

Chirchir says the pending bills will be cleared by the first week of August this year.

Chirchir says no new road projects will be undertaken until all previous pending bills are cleared.

While appearing before the Senate, Chirchir said only land owners along the 1.5 kilometers out of 13 kilometer Ngong Riruta railway line will be compensated and already Ksh 2.8 billion has been set aside for compensation.

The government says despite the construction of the Bomas Kiserian road to decongest the City, the railway line is a necessity to decabornize Nairobi.

Chirchir further said that groundbreaking for the Nairobi -Nakuru -Mau Summit Highway dualling project will begin by the end of August.

The 175 kilometre upgrade is expected to ease traffic and enhance regional connectivity .
