Nine players dropped from the Malkia Strikers squad for the World Championship

Nine players have been dropped from the National Volleyball women’s team, Malkia Strikers, ahead of the FIVB World Championship set for August 22 to September 7 in Thailand.

The team, which has been training at the Nyayo stadium gymnasium, was trimmed from 29 to 20 before the final squad of 14 will be announced early next month.

Among the dropped players are Valerie Chepkoech, Vivian Vugutsa, Peninah Wafula, Sharon Sandui (injured), Valentine Jemutai, Miriam Musa, Deborah Sang, and Lydia Iswan.

The final squad will be announced before their departure to Vietnam between the 15th and 20th of next month for friendly matches in preparation for the World Championship.

Provisional Squad

Setters: Emmaulate Nekesa, Fridah Boke, Marclean Okoko

Opposite Hitters: Mercy Iminza, Malyne Terry, Loice Simiyu, Pamela Adhiambo

Middle Blockers: Belinda Barasa, Elizabeth Sokoiyo, Gladys Ekaru, Lorine Chebet, Pauline Chemtai

Outside Hitters: Daisy Leting, Veronica Adhiambo, Juliana Namutira, Sarah Namisi, Meldina Sande (captain)

Liberos: Celestine Nafula, Sharlene Maywa, Dolphine Misoki

Kenya is in pool G for this year’s FIVB World Championship set for between 22nd August and 2nd  September , together with Germany, Poland, and Vietnam.

The technical team includes head coach Geoffrey Omondi, assistants Esther Jepkosgei and David Muthui, trainer Azenga Mavisi, and physiotherapist Sarah Karongo.
