Nyeri County has reported its first confirmed case of Mpox.
The case involves a 60-year-old woman who recently travelled from Nairobi to Mathira East and later tested positive for the viral disease.
Since the outbreak began in July 2024, a total of 314 cases have been confirmed nationwide.
The Ministry of Health Friday August 1st said the cases had been reported in 22 counties, namely Mombasa (146), Busia (63), Nakuru (21), Kilifi (19), Nairobi (17), Makueni (13), Taita Taveta (5), Uasin Gishu (5), Bungoma (4), Kajiado (3), Kakamega (3), Kiambu (3), Kericho (2), Machakos (2), Migori (1), Kisii (1), Kirinyaga (1), Isiolo (1), Kitui (1), Narok (1), Baringo (1) and Trans-Nzoia (1).
An additional four Mpox cases have been confirmed, three in Mombasa and one in Nairobi.
With the latest case, Nyeri becomes the 23rd county to report Mpox infections. Mombasa County remains the hardest hit, accounting for 138 confirmed cases and five deaths to date.
The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with County Governments and other partners, has intensified surveillance efforts across all counties.
Multidisciplinary Rapid Response Teams (RRTs) have been deployed to strengthen healthcare worker capacity, conduct active case finding, contact tracing and investigation, and provide symptomatic management for confirmed cases.
Mental health and psychosocial support are also being offered to both infected individuals and affected communities.
Health Cabinet Secretary Adan Duale disclosed that a total of 33 cases are currently admitted in various facilities across the country, while 54 cases are under home-based isolation and care.
