The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has set November 27, 2025, as the date for all pending by-elections across the country, ending the long wait during which some seats have been vacant for over two years.

The wards include Angata Nanyokie Ward in Samburu County, Chemundu/Kapng’etuny Ward in Nandi County, Chewani Ward in Tana River County, Fafi Ward in Garissa County, Kariobangi North Ward in Nairobi City County, Kisa East Ward in Kakamega County, Metkei Ward in Elgeyo Marakwet County, and Mumbuni North Ward in Machakos County.
Others are Narok Town Ward in Narok County, Purko Ward in Kajiado County, Tembelio Ward in Uasin Gishu County, Nyansiongo, Nyamaiya, and Ekerenyo Wards in Nyamira County, as well as Lake Zone and Nanaam Wards in Turkana County.

IEBC has directed political parties planning to participate in the by-elections to submit their candidate names by Wednesday, September 17.
Additionally, any public officer who wishes to run must resign from their position within seven days of this notice.
The Commission will Gazette the names of candidates participating in party primaries, along with the scheduled dates of the primaries, within seven days after receiving the submissions.
Independent candidates must not have been affiliated with any political party for at least three months before election day and are required to submit their names by Wednesday, September 17.
The official campaign period will run from Wednesday, October 8, until Monday, November 24, with campaigning allowed daily between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm.
Further, political parties and candidates must appoint and submit the names of their Election Agents to the Commission by Tuesday, November 11.
The IEBC will use the certified voter register published on June 21, 2022, for the elections.
