The National Police Service (NPS) has moved to reassure members of the public and the business community that Nairobi’s Central Business District remains secure, following concerns raised after a recent incident at Nanak House.
According to the police, the incident on Friday involved a deliberate attack on four businesses within the building.
Detectives have established that the incident is linked to an internal civil dispute that is already before the courts. One suspect has been arrested, and further arrests are expected.
The Regional Police Commander for Nairobi said the incident was isolated and should not be viewed should not be viewed as a wider security threat within the city centre.
The Service also emphasised that the overall security situation across the country remains stable, attributing this to ongoing operations and continued public cooperation.
“The National Police Service wishes to assure the public that Nairobi Central Business District remains one of the most secure areas in which to conduct business. Its status as a symbol of the capital city cannot be over emphasised. Furthermore, the general state of security across the country remains commendably good, a result of the efforts executed on a daily basis alongside the invaluable support of the public”, NPS said in a statement.
Members of the public have been encouraged to continue cooperating with law enforcement by promptly reporting any suspicious or criminal activities.
“As a Service, we remain steadfast in our commitment to serving the people and combating all forms of criminality”, it assured through the spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga.
