The National Police Service (NPS) confirmed the death of a Kenyan police officer serving in the Kenyan-led Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) in Haiti.
According to a statement by NPS, the officer lost his life on Sunday at around 5PM, 31st August, 2025, Haitian time (Monday, 1st September 2025, 2AM Kenyan time) in a road accident on the Kenscoff-Pétion-Ville Road in the Pèlerin 9 area.
“The National Police Service (NPS) received the tragic news early this morning of the death of a Kenyan police officer serving in the Kenyan-led Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) in Haiti. The next of kin have been notified.” The statement read.
Adding that: “Reports indicate that on Sunday, 31st August 2025, at approximately 1700 hours Haitian time (Monday, 1st September 2025, at 0200 hours Kenyan time), MSS officers were involved in a tragic road traffic accident on the Kenscoff-Pétion-Ville Road in the Pèlerin 9 area.”
The incident occurred during a recovery operation involving two MaxxPro vehicles. During the towing process, the unfortunate accident happened, which also claimed the lives of two civilians and injured eight other MSS officers.
Three of the injured are in a serious condition and are currently receiving medical care in hospital.
The National Police Service extended condolences to the family of the late officer and assured them of support.
“The National Police Service (NPS) extends its deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and relatives of the fallen officer and assures them of our unwavering support during this time of profound sorrow.” The statement read.
Meanwhile, the MSS, in collaboration with the Haitian National Police (HNP), is making arrangements to repatriate the officer’s body to Kenya and is ensuring the injured personnel continue to receive the best possible medical care.
