Kilifi County residents are asking the government and relevant institutions to now switch from dialogue to action.

The call was made at the fifth edition of the intergenerational conversation at the Kibaoni Social Hall in Kilifi County.

Margaret Mwachiru  a resident of Kilifi said, “Truly any youth or woman who doesn’t have a job or a craft to enable them fend for themselves will come out. This rage is caused by the fact that they have nothing.”

Mwachiru also said that such people easily get into drug abuse and violent extremism and insisted that it’s time to move from mere dialogue.

The Police Commandant for Kilifi County Reginad Omaria congratulated the idea of intergenerational conversations organized by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission NCIC in conjunction with the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation and other stakeholders.

“Dialogue is a good step that we have taken; the second step should be listening to each other, finding out our differences, and come up with lasting solutions,” said Omaria.

John Mawasit from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission suggested that youth be included in all important decisions in both the National and County governments, instead of just leaving them at the level of voters.

Mama Tumaini Elisha, a community elder, asked the political class to come together and find opportunities for the youth to prevent them from engaging in protests.

The National Cohesion and Integration Commission came up with the fora for conversations to tame the widening rift between generations.

The sittings have been held in Marsabit, Nairobi, Kisumu, Busia, and Kilifi Counties with the sixth edition expected to be in Taita Taveta County.
