Genge veteran Mejja has teamed up with fast-rising artist Toxic Lyrikali for new collaboration, “Manifest”.
The official music video premiered on YouTube, where it debuted at No. 4 on the trending chart with over 251,000 views within its first 20 hours of release at the time of this publication.
“Manifest” leans into themes of positivity, aspiration, and the law of attraction, encouraging listeners to envision and materialise the good things they seek in life. With lyrics like “Ile siku nitashinda Grammy, nitabonga Sheng wa translate na Kilammy”, Mejja leans heavily into positive thinking.
The track’s message resonates with a new generation of Kenyan artists who blend lyrical depth with forward-looking sentiment, a space where Toxic’s contemporary sound meshes well with Mejja’s seasoned delivery.
While Mejja is regarded as one of the true OGs of Kenyan rap, with a career spanning nearly two decades, the song’s aesthetics and visuals reflect Toxic Lyrikali’s fresh, new-age sonic identity that has characterised much of his recent output, including songs like “Backbencher”, “Thugnificent” and “Chinje”.
Mejja has long spoken about the importance of good vibes and collaboration in his music, once saying that he only works with artists when they “have the same vibe and good energy.”
Meanwhile, Toxic’s ascent, marked by breakout hits and a growing fanbase, has seen him push the boundaries of Kenyan hip-hop, blending introspection with streetwise flair. According to Spotify data, Toxic has seen “1,493% growth” in the past year with streaming.
