A joint operation by the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) and the National Police Service (NPS) has led to the seizure of bhang worth about Ksh1 million in Molo Town, Nakuru County.

The drugs were recovered on Monday night, March 2, 2026, after officers intercepted a suspected drug trafficker who abandoned the consignment and fled during a chase in the Munju area of the town.

According to NACADA, the intelligence-led operation targeted a known trafficker believed to have been transporting a large quantity of cannabis.

Officers drawn from NACADA and police units in the town, where they spotted a white Toyota Probox matching the description of the vehicle used by the trafficker.

As the team attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver made a sudden U-turn and sped off, triggering a brief pursuit.

During the chase, the suspect threw three large sacks out of the moving vehicle before speeding away into the darkness.

The sacks were recovered and escorted to Molo Police Station, where a preliminary inspection established they contained about 200 brooms of dry plant material suspected to be cannabis.

Authorities estimate each broom has a street value of about Ksh500, putting the total value of the drugs at approximately Ksh1 million.

The suspect remains at large, with police launching a manhunt to track him down.

Further investigations and operations in the area are ongoing to dismantle the supply chain.

Following the successful operation, NACADA CEO Dr. Anthony Omerikwa commended the public for their continued vigilance, noting that the bust was a direct result of intelligence provided by community members.

“We extend our sincere gratitude to the members of the public who continue to play their rightful role in pointing out criminals within our communities,” said Dr. Omerikwa.

“This operation in Molo is a testament to the fact that the information provided by citizens is leading to successful operations and making our neighborhoods safer.”

Dr. Omerikwa reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to eradicating the substance abuse menace, confirming that sustained crackdowns against drugs are continuing countrywide.

“These enforcement efforts are ongoing and relentless. We are committed to ensuring that our communities remain safe from the harmful effects of narcotics and psychotropic substances. We will not relent in going after those who seek to profit from the destruction of our youth,” he added.
