Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru says Mt. Kenya’s best interests are protected in President William Ruto’s administration and therefore the region should not be swayed into opposition.

Waiguru said the opposition has nothing to offer to the region, warning people from the region not to gamble with their votes.

She said the mountain had the biggest representation in terms of number of Cabinet Secretaries and Permanent Secretaries in the Kenya Kwanza administration and hence the need to support the government.

“It’s not easy to remove a sitting President in power and I fear this region could plunge itself in political cold if we are not careful,” Waiguru said.

Speaking in Mathioya Constituency where she was the chief guest during a Women’s empowerment programme, the second term Governor said that the region would not get any meaningful share if opposition was to form government since their arrangement has not given it any presidency slot.

She said Mt. Kenya’s interests are secure with that President Ruto adding that he had returned the Deputy President slot to the region after the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua.

Waiguru said like his predecessors, President Ruto deserves a second term in office since he had delivered on most of his development promises.

The Governor said that in less than five years, Ruto has completed all projects that had stalled and implemented new ones across all social – economic sectors in the Country.

In Transport and infrastructure development, the Governor said that President Ruto’s administration had made lot of progress, citing completion of stalled roads and commencement of construction of key roads like the 233-kilometre Rironi–Mau Summit Road project.

In Agriculture, Waiguru said ongoing coffee sector revitalization through expansion of marketing channels are bearing fruits with increased farmer’s earnings.

On Politics, she reiterated that the Mountain region must remain on the decision making table. “The people of the Mountain formed this Government and therefore we cannot leave it and start over again,” she said.

In the event, thousands of residents received foodstuffs donations for Easter celebrations, withn110 women groups getting Sh. 50,000 cash each.

Area leaders led by Mathioya MP Edwin Mugo endorsed Waiguru for the DP position in the next General election.

He said that the Governor’s development record has proven that she was ripe for any national position.

Nominated Senator Veronica Maina said that time had come for a woman leader to sit on the national decision making table.

MP Kirinyaga Central Gachoki Gitari and County Assembly Speaker Murimi Muteti echoed sentiments and urged the President to pick Governor Waiguru as her 2027 elections running mate position.
