Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has said the ongoing security sector reforms will be accelerated to improve service delivery to the public.
At the centre of these reforms, he said, are strengthened training, modernisation of infrastructure, and improved welfare of officers, adding that this will translate into better services to the public.
“As a Ministry, we will continue to strengthen training, modernise our infrastructure, improve inter-agency cooperation and the welfare of our officers,” Murkomen said.
He spoke when he joined Deputy President Kithure Kindiki as he presided over the pass-out parade of Kenya Prisons Service cadets at the Prisons Staff Training College (PSTC) in Ruiru.
During the ceremony, 36 cadet officers from various professions, including the medical field, graduated after 13 months of rigorous training in various parts of the country.
The ceremony also culminated in the commissioning of the Wanini Kireri Magereza Hospital, a 150-bed facility offering comprehensive outpatient and inpatient care, and the flagging off of 41 vehicles for deployment to various correctional facilities.
“We are reforming the Kenya Prisons Service into a modern correctional institution anchored on secure custody, rehabilitation, technology, skills development and successful reintegration in tune with the changing security environment,” the CS said.
