Access Bank Kenya has transfered of all its assets and liabilities to National Bank of Kenya following the acqusition of the later from KCB Group.
This follows approval by the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) on August 17, 2026 and a subsiquent approval by the Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury and Economic Planning on September 21, 2026.
The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) said the transfer shall take effect upon completion of the transaction in accordance with the terms of the Business and Assets Transfer Agreement between the parties.
Access Bank Kenya which is a subsidiary of Nigerian giant lender, Access Bank Plc acquired 100% of the issued share capital of NBK from KCB Group.
“CBK welcomes this transaction as it will ensure continued stability and enhance resilience of the Kenyan banking sector and promote competition,” said CBK.
Access Bank entered the Kenyan market in February 2020, after acquiring 100% of the issued share capital of Transnational Bank Plc which was later renamed Access Bank Kenya.
Access Bank currently operates in 18 markets across the globe with 13 being in Africa.
