Five-time African Cup of Nations champions Cameroon punished wasteful South Africa to knock them out 2-1, in the round of 16 fixture played Sunday night at the Al Barid stadium in Rabat, Morocco.
Bafana Bafana started brightly but didn’t make their chances count as they went behind when Junior Tchamadeu scored in the 34th minute from close range as the Indomitable Lions led into halftime.
Cameroon resumed from the break with a clear ambition of sealing the game, and they only needed two minutes to extend their lead through teenager Christian Kofane.
Bafana Bafana regained their strength late in the rain-soaked match as Evidence Makgopa pulled reduced the deficit in the 88th minute.
It was, however, too little too late, as Cameroon held on to seal a 2-1 victory and marched on to play the hosts on Friday in Rabat.
