Uganda’s cranes joined African Nations Championship co-hosts Kenya and Tanzania in crashing out following a 1-0 loss to reigning champions the Teranga Lions of Senegal on Saturday evening in the 3rd quarter-final match staged at the Nelson Mandela stadium.
The Cranes, who enjoyed slightly over 55% possession throughout the game, were unable to break through the tight Senegal defence, with the 1st stanza ending all square.
Oumar Ba scored the only vital goal in the 62nd minute after being set up by Libasse Gueye and managed to defend deeply to seal their semi-final slot.
Uganda joins the fray of eliminated co-hosts Kenya and Tanzania, who all bowed out at the last 8 stage on Friday.
On the other end, the Lions of Teranga, Senegal, will play two-time champions the Atlas Lions of Morocco next Tuesday, in the last semi-final at the Mandela National Stadium in Kampala.
