Olympic Champions Faith Kipyegon and Beatrice Chebet opened their 2025 Diamond League season in style today, registering both meeting records and world-leading times in Xiamen, China.
Chebet dashed in the last 2,000m to claim victory in 5,000m, clocking 14:27.12 minutes, followed by Gudaf Tsegay, who led other Ethiopians to dominate positions 2 to 7.
Three-time 1,500m Olympic champion Faith Kipyegon,missed out on the 1,000m world record by a whisker for a 3rd time, stopping the clock in 2 minutes 29.21 seconds but registering both a world lead and a meeting record.
Australian duo; Abbey Cladwell and Sarah Billings, finished in 2nd and 3rd positions in 2:32.94 and 2:33.95 minutes, respectively.

Africa’s fastest man, Ferdinand Omanyala, finished 2nd in 100m for a 2nd time in a row in 10.13 seconds, behind South African Akani Simbine, who won in 9.99 seconds.
Simon Kiprop and Edmund Serem, finished 3rd and 4th, respectively, in the 3,000m steeplechase, the race won by Samuel Firehu of Ethiopia in 8:05.61, a world-leading time, followed by Olympic and World Champion Soufiane El Bakkali of Morocco in a season-best time of 8 minutes 6.66 seconds.
Norwegian Karsten Warholm ,shattered his own world record in a newly introduced event in the 300m hurdles, setting a new world record of 33.5 seconds.
The 2nd meet will be held on 3rd May in Shanghai, China.
