Cherotich and Lemngole advance to the 3000 msc final in Tokyo

World and Olympic bronze medalist Faith Cherotich and debutant Doris Lemngole advanced into the 3000 msc final, while  Pamela Koskgei was locked out  as the World Athletics Championships entered day 3  early today in Tokyo, Japan.

Cherotich won heat 1 in 9:13.95, ahead of Kenyan-born Norah Jeruto of Kazakistan  and   Elise Thorner from Briatain, who finished 2nd and 3rd, respectively, to qualify  for Wednesday’s final.

US-based Lemngole also punched her ticket, finishing 2nd in the 3rd heat after clocking 9:08.97, behind the winner, former Olympic champion Peruth Chemutai of Uganda, in 9:09.68.

Kosgei missed out on the final after she finished 10th in heat 2, which was won by the defending champion, Kenyan-born Bahraini Winfred Yavi Mutile.

Kenya will be aiming to reclaim the title it last won in 2019 through the current World Record holder Beatrice Chepkoech in Wednesday’s final.
