World and Olympic bronze medalist Faith Cherotich and debutant Doris Lemngole advanced into the 3000 msc final, while Pamela Koskgei was locked out as the World Athletics Championships entered day 3 early today in Tokyo, Japan.
Cherotich won heat 1 in 9:13.95, ahead of Kenyan-born Norah Jeruto of Kazakistan and Elise Thorner from Briatain, who finished 2nd and 3rd, respectively, to qualify for Wednesday’s final.
US-based Lemngole also punched her ticket, finishing 2nd in the 3rd heat after clocking 9:08.97, behind the winner, former Olympic champion Peruth Chemutai of Uganda, in 9:09.68.
Kosgei missed out on the final after she finished 10th in heat 2, which was won by the defending champion, Kenyan-born Bahraini Winfred Yavi Mutile.
Kenya will be aiming to reclaim the title it last won in 2019 through the current World Record holder Beatrice Chepkoech in Wednesday’s final.
