Nigerian musician, Davido, has finally broken his silence over a false story that was published by K24 in which they claimed he had been arrested by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

The story, published on Monday, said that the “Timeless” musician had been arrested over what they called a “cocaine haul” after it was discovered at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

Due to the virality of the story, the DCI later denied the claims tweeting a picture of the headline with the caption, “Fake news.”

The media house has since retracted the story calling it an April Fool’s joke.

Taking to social media to finally address the article, Davido said he had received numerous calls following its publication.

“False reports regarding an arrest circulated online…has since led to a barrage of calls,” Davido said in a statement.

“I want to assure my fans that these reports are entirely untrue. I successfully completed my scheduled shows in Uganda and Kenya and have since returned home to Nigeria.”

The award-winning singer went on to clear his name stating categorically that he had never been arrested.

“I’d also like to note that I have never been arrested by anyone in any country for any crime in the world.

“Not my home Nigeria, my home America or any of the hundreds of countries I’ve made home throughout my career.”

To conclude his statement he further added that he was seeking legal advice regarding the incident.

“I find the fabrication of allegations of such international crimes extremely irresponsible regardless of the light of ‘April Fools’, and my lawyer is seeking legal recourse against the media parties responsible for generating this misinformation,” the statement said.

Davido is scheduled to perform in the US over the next months.
