The Athletics Integrity Unit ,AIU has banned long distance runner Kenya’s Emmanuel Kipchumba Kemboi for 2 years for Presence/Use of a Prohibited Substance (Triamcinolone acetonide).
Kemboi whose ban began on 7th April 2025 submitted a urine sample at the 2024 Lisbon Marathon in October.
On December 17, 2024, the World Anti-Doping Agency (“WADA”) accredited laboratory in Lisbon, Portugal reported an Adverse Analytical Finding in the Sample based on the presence of Triamcinolone acetonide.
On April 2, 2025, the 28-year-old admitted fault and had his four-year ban shortened to two years.
Triamcinolone acetonide is a synthetic corticosteroid used to treat various inflammatory conditions. It is available in topical, injection, and nasal spray forms. It works by reducing inflammation and suppressing the immune system.
Kemboi has raced the marathon as fast as 2:14:33, the half marathon in 1:01:55 and the 10,000m in 29:12.99.
Kemboi won the 2025 Riyadh Marathon in February.
