The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has kept fuel prices unchanged in the second consecutive review despite increases in imported super petrol and diesel.

The latest decision by the regulatory authority spared consumers further prices increases since the hike in January.

EPRA’s latest decision now mean consumers in Nairobi will continue to pay Ksh 176.58 for a litre of super petrol, Ksh 167.06 for a litre of diesel and Ksh 151.39 for a litre of Kerosene.

“The purpose of the Petroleum Pricing Regulations is to cap the retail prices of petroleum products which are already in the country so that importation and other prudently incurred costs are recovered while ensuring reasonable prices to consumers,” said Kiptoo Bargoria, EPRA Director General.

Last month, landed cost of super petrol rose by 1.34pc  $637.22 per cubic metre while that of diesel rose by 1.41pc to $680.63 per cubic metre. Only kerosene experienced a reduction in the average landed cost charge which declined by 1.36pc to $672.14. During the period, the average exchange rate was Ksh 129.6 per dollar.

Motorists in Mombasa will pay the least amount for a litre of super petrol, diesel and kerosene at the pump with retail prices set at Ksh 173.34, Ksh 163.82 and Ksh 148.15 respectively.

Fuel will be most expensive in Mandera where a litre of super petrol, diesel and kerosene will retail at a maximum of Ksh 190.59, Ksh 181.07 and Ksh 165.39 respectively.
