The Government has partnered with the County Government of Kilifi to construct a modern 10,000-seater stadium in Kilifi County, as part of a broader agenda to expand
Grassroots sports infrastructure and nurture talent across the country.

Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, the Creative Economy and Sports, Salim Mvurya, lauded the County Government’s intent to invest in sports and talent development, a commitment that aligns with President William Ruto’s vision of empowering youth through sports and modern infrastructure.

Speaking after a high-level consultative meeting with Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro, the Cabinet Secretary affirmed that the envisioned stadium will be constructed
to international standards, positioning Kilifi as a viable host for regional and global sports events, while also providing a conducive environment for local athletes to train,
compete, and grow.

“This project is a fulfilment of the President’s dream to empower the youth through strategic investments in sports infrastructure. We are committed to working with the
County Government to bring this vision to life,” said CS Mvurya.

“We have long envisioned the construction of a modern stadium in Kilifi, and while we encountered some delays due to contractor issues, we now have the green light to
proceed. The support from the National Government is a welcome catalyst to make this long-standing dream a reality,” added Governor Mung’aro.

During the site visit, the CS directed technical teams from both levels of government to Immediately begin harmonising the design framework and spatial requirements to                                                pave the way for implementation.

“We have agreed that the project will begin without delay. Our technical teams will work together to finalise designs and ensure the stadium meets the highest standards, “said Mvurya.

Beyond the stadium, the Cabinet Secretary revealed plans to explore the establishment of sports academies in Kilifi and other coastal counties to support early-stage talent development.              “We are not only focused on building stadiums but also on establishing sports academies that nurture talent from a young age.Kilifi and its neighbouring counties will be part of this broader framework for youth empowerment through sports,” said CS Mvurya.

The Kilifi stadium project forms part of a wider national strategy to roll out modern accessible sports infrastructure and position Kenya as a continental leader in sports development.
