The globally acclaimed movie “The Colour Purple” is set to start its theatrical run in Nairobi cinemas from February 9.
Ahead of its release in cinemas, media personality Pinky Ghelani hosted a premiere event themed ‘Women Wear Pants’ at the Century Cinemax, Two Rivers Mall.
The Broadway adaptation which premiered in America on December 25, will be available to watch in select theatres in Nairobi, Mombasa, Eldoret and Kisumu.
In Nairobi watch the film at the Westgate Cinema, Century Cinemax Two Rivers, Century Cinemax Garden City, Century Cinemax Sarit Centre, Century Cinemax The Junction, Motion Cinema Greenspan Mall, Prestige Cinema, Anga Cinema CBD, Anga Cinema Diamond Plaza, Anga Cinema and Panari Centre.
Additionally, the film will be available in Mombasa at the Nyali Cinemax, in Eldoret at the Rupa Cinema Mall and in Kisumu at the Mega Cinema Mega Mall.
Several media personalities who attended the premiere event at the Two Rivers Mall said it was emotional and poignant.
“It’s a roller coaster of emotions. It would be the best way to sum up my experience watching The Color Purple”, said June Gachui of Capital FM.
Pinky Ghelani said, “ It truly made me cry as a woman and as a mother.”
“The film is emotionally heavy, its themes of resilience and sisterhood resonate profoundly, making it a thought-provoking cinematic & musical experience,” said Shiksha Arora of KBC.
The Colour Purple is distributed in the country and the rest of E.Africa through a partnership between Warner Bros. Pictures International and Crimson Multimedia Ltd.
