10km World record holder Agnes Jebet Ng’etich beat a star studded elite women’s field to claim 1st title of the Sirikwa Classic World Cross Country gold label Tour in the 10km held today at the Lobo Village ,Kapseret,Eldoret.
Jebet also the fastest half marathoner proved her prowess leading all the five laps to emerge victorious in 32:42 minutes, followed by Janeth Chepng’etich who won silver in 10 seconds behind while Mirriam Chebet, settled for w a bronze medal in 34 minutes and 9 seconds.
Hot favourite and tripple Olympic champion Faith Kipyegon dropped out of the race in the 3rd lap.
Jebet said her focus now shifts to Tokyo 2025 World Athletics Championships where she is yet to decide whether to run 5,000m or 10,000m.
“Though it was hot and windy but I ran my race comfortably. I am happy with today’s victory.I am now preparing for World Championship.”said Jebet
With the win, Jebet won 6,000 USD, Chepng’etich, who took silver, pocketed 5,000 USD, while Chebet walked home with 4,000 USD.
