Deputy President Kithure Kindiki on Tuesday inspected the ongoing construction of the the Kabonyo Fisheries Aquaculture and Training Centre in Nyando, Kisumu County.
During the visit, DP Kindiki urged the contractors undertaking the project to speed up inorder to benefit the people of Kisumu.
The Ksh 1.3 billion Kabonyo Fisheries Aquaculture and Training Centre in Kisumu County is one of the Government’s flagship projects for the revitalization of the blue economy value chains and improvement of fisherfolk and fisheries sector.
The centre which is 15pc complete will provide 28 million fingerlings annually for aquaculture, cage culture, and restocking of Lake Victoria.
“Once complete in June 2026, the centre will provide fresh water fish feed (fingerlings) and avail them to small and large-scale fish farmers,” said DP Kindiki.
Th project, together with fish landing sites complete with cold rooms, whose construction will commence shortly will modernize the fisheries sector, empower millions of Kenyans in the sector and revitalize the economy of the Counties around Lake Victoria; Migori, Homabay, Kisumu, Siaya and Busia.
