KULA, which describes itself as Africa’s first virtual cultural ecosystem, made its soft launch during the VIP experience at Lil Maina’s “Sumbua” album event at Aspire Centre.

The activation brought together culinary innovation, music, technology and community in what the company said was an early showcase of its immersive “digital-meets-physical” approach.

“Lil Maina represents Nairobi’s cultural heartbeat, young, bold, community-rooted, and creatively authentic. Launching KULA inside his album release event created the perfect showbiz crossover where food, music, and youth culture meet,” said KULA CEO Mbuki Kasema.

Kasema added that the brand wanted the launch to be “felt and not just seen or heard,” describing the atmosphere as energetic and interactive.

“The event was pizza in hand, energy flowing, and we were building a story with the audience in real time,” she said.

Lil Maina, popularly known as “The Biggest Stepper,” has quickly risen from viral comedian to chart-topping artist with tracks such as the 2021 breakout hit “Kishash” and songs from his 2023 debut album “Maisha Ya Stunna”, including “Alert” and “Ma G Kwenye Klabu”.

His collaboration with KULA marks an experimental turn, integrating music, technology and food as part of a wider artistic experience.

During the launch, VIP guests were given a first look at the “KULAverse,” including the platform’s first official food drop, a co-created pizza developed with Lil Maina.

The lounge featured animated avatars, digital displays and content capture zones aimed at Gen Z audiences, demonstrating how KULA plans to connect fans with artists through interactive cultural experiences.

KULA says it is not entering the market as a traditional restaurant, but instead as a cultural innovation brand focused on artist-led culinary drops.

By blending food, music, digital storytelling and Pan-African creativity, the company hopes to create moments where fans participate in cultural releases and artists expand their creative expression beyond music.

The soft launch marks the beginning of KULA’s rollout, with upcoming collaborations planned and a wider launch expected across major food delivery platforms in Nairobi.
