A section of the clergy and members of Bunge la Wananchi from Migori County have called on residents to refrain from unnecessary mass actions and demonstrations.
During a consultative meeting that brought together the two vocal groups, leaders urged the youth to avoid taking to the streets without a valid cause.
The clergy, led by Bishop Essau Jobando, emphasized that Kenya needs peace and stability, warning that frequent demonstrations risk undermining the progress made so far.
He particularly took issue with the planned demonstrations set for Monday in commemoration of Saba Saba Day, arguing that the original objectives of the movement had already been achieved and there was no longer any need to protest.
His sentiments were echoed by Bishop Chris Abula and Pastor Linnet Peace, who also appealed for calm and constructive engagement.
On their part, members of Bunge la Wananchi led by Charles Osewe assured that no property would be destroyed in Migori during the Saba Saba commemorations. Osewe noted that businesses in town would operate as usual and insisted that anyone intending to protest must have a valid reason.
Migori Bunge la Wananchi Speaker Kennedy Oganga added that Saba Saba no longer holds relevance for the current generation and should not be used by leaders as a tool to incite violence for personal gain.
