The President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), Fouzi Lekjaa, was elected as the top representative of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on the FIFA Council after garnering 49 out of 52 votes.
The election was conducted during the 14th Extraordinary General Assembly of the continental football governing body, which was held in Cairo on Wednesday.
Lekjaa defeated Hani Abou Rida of Egypt, Djibrilla Hima Hamidou of Niger, Ahmed Yahya of Mauritania, and Souleiman Waberi of Djibouti by a significant margin.
This extraordinary general assembly was also marked by the re-election of Patrice Motsepe unopposed as CAF president.
All elected officials will serve for a period of four years until 2029.
