Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has said police have arrested several people and impounded vehicles after Nairobi County officials dumped waste at Stima Plaza in a retaliatory attack.
Speaking during a press briefing Thursday, CS Murkomen said police arrested the suspected perpetrators for questioning after Kenya power made a report.
He also noted that the information about their arrests, had not been shared with the public or Parliament,
during yesterday’s debate, and promised that his Ministry and the National Police Service, will compile the ongoing investigation details and submit them to Parliament for further action in due course.
The CS at the same time condemned the act, describing it as primitive and a threat to public health.
Earlier, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) directed the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to investigate the Nairobi County Government’s waste dumping at the Kenya Power headquarters.
Deputy DPP, Jacinta Nyamosi, called it a serious matter that requires immediate legal action.
Nyamosi, said relevant public health, environment, and sanitation agencies should investigate the matter and submit a report within seven days.
The directive follows arising conflict between Kenya Power and Nairobi City County which began when Kenya Power disconnected electricity to several Nairobi County offices on February 14, 2025, over an unpaid bill of Ksh 3 billion.
In retaliation, the County Government took drastic measures on Monday, including dumping garbage outside the KPLC offices, blocking sewer lines, and cutting off water supply to its buildings.
She said the matter has sparked public concern and could escalate into a serious health hazard if not addressed emphasizing the need for swift action to establish the facts and determine a sustainable solution.
