Muslim faithful across the country have thronged mosques Sunday to celebrate Eid Ul-Fitr, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
The day observed with prayers and celebrations is the first of the two main festivals in Islam It falls on the first day of Shawwal, the tenth month of the Islamic calendar.
Eid al-Fitr is celebrated by Muslims worldwide because it marks the end of the month-long dawn-to-dusk fasting of Ramadan.
In Kenya, Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale joined the Muslim faithful at Adams Mosque, Nairobi for prayers, where he made a plea to the faithful to continue their acts of charity and sustain their prayer for the country.
“I continue to make a passionate plea to my fellow Muslim faithful to continue their acts of charity and sustain their prayers for our country and its unity, even after the holy month of Ramadan has concluded.” CS Duale remarked.
Adding that: “The significance of this day, marking the end of Ramadan, is a reminder of the values of commitment and reflection, which I intend to carry forward into my work at the Health Ministry. ”
Mining Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho and Mombasa County Speaker Aharub Khatri are at Tononoka Grounds in Mombasa for the Eid-ul-Fitr prayers.
The leaders took the chance to preach peace with Mandera Deputy Governor Mohamud Ali calling for peace on border towns between Kenya and Somalia.
In Kwale County, Sports CS Salim Mvurya called on Muslims to continue praying, showing acts of charity as they spread compassion.
“As we bid farewell to Ramadhan, may we carry its wisdom into our daily lives, its lessons of patience, faith, and kindness. Let our prayers, acts of charity, and compassion continue to shape a better tomorrow.”
The CS also thanked President Ruto for removing restrictions on the Muslim community including ID checks.
The Inspector General of the National Police Service, Douglas Kanja, joined congregants among them the Member of Parliament for Kamukunji Yusuf Hassan for the Eid-ul-Fitr prayers and celebrations in Eastleigh.
He was accompanied by a contingent of security leaders, including Nairobi Regional Police Commander George Seda, Police Spokesperson Michael Nyaga Muchiri, Starehe Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD) Wilson Muraya, and the Eastleigh North OCS Abdi Diis.
“My thanks to the IG and his team for their presence and commitment to ensuring a peaceful and joyful celebration.” MP Hassan said.

Speaking after prayers at the Isiolo Islamic Institute Grounds, Shariff Osman, a muslim faithful called for accountable leadership in the broad-based Government, following the pact between President William Ruto and ODM Leader Raila Odinga that has crippled the opposition politics.
Osman appealed to the two leaders to ensure that Kenyans do not suffer as a result of continued misappropriation of public funds, as witnessed in the auditor general’s report.
According to Osman, the auditor general’s report was enough to incriminate those liable for misuse of public resources, therefore there is no need for other bodies to carry out investigations into the same, and that only action needs to be taken.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen declared Monday, March 31, 2025 to be a public holiday to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr as Muslims across Kenya mark the end of Ramadan.
