Two suspects have been arrested in Busia as authorities step up the war against drug trafficking in the country.
The duo, identified as Alfred Ouma Mapesa, 50, and Frederick Egesa Wafula, 41 were arrested following a police operation targeting narcotics peddling within Busia and its environs.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), officers based at Busia Police Station intercepted a motorcycle and found Mapesa transporting a gunny bag containing 24 kilograms of cannabis sativa.
Upon interrogation, Mapesa disclosed the identity of his alleged accomplice, Wafula, who was arrested shortly thereafter.
The two suspects are currently in police custody and are being processed ahead of their arraignment.
