Senate Speaker Amason Kingi has declared Senator Gloria Orwoba’s seat vacant following her expulsion by United Democratic Party (UDA).
“It is notified for the general information of the public that pursuant to Article 101 (2) of the Constitution of Kenya, a seat of the member of the Senate elected under Article 98 (1) (b) of the Constitution, held by Gloria Orwoba has become vacant with effect from the 21st May, 2025,” read the gazette notice.
Orwoba was kicked out from the ruling party over allegations of disloyalty and violation of party ideals.
UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar formally wrote to Speaker Kingi to initiate Orwoba’s removal and nominated Consolata Wabwire Wakwabubi from Kimilili Constituency to replace her.
“In accordance with the party’s nomination rules and based on the party list submitted to the IEBC prior to the 2022 General Election, the party has nominated Mrs. Consolata Wabwire Wakwabubi from Kimilili Constituency, Bungoma County, to fill the resulting vacancy,” he added.
Senator Orwoba’s expulsion follows a series of public actions that placed her at odds with the ruling party’s leadership.
On April 17, she was present at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to receive former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i upon his return to Kenya and later participated in his homecoming ceremony at Gusii Stadium on May 2, appearances that UDA viewed as acts of disloyalty.
