Defending Champions Senegal, Sudan and Congo will battle for the last two available quarter-final slots as the 8th edition of the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship group matches is set to conclude this evening.

The Lions of Teranga, who are 2nd of Group D on 4 points, will take on group leaders Sudan in a winner-take-all contest at the Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar from 8pm Kenya.

Senegal needs a victory to guarantee their progress but still a draw will suffice if Nigeria wins against Congo, while a draw will be enough for Sudan to punch their quarter-final spot owing to their superior goal difference.

Senegal beat Nigeria 1-0 before drawing 1-1 with Congo, whereas the Nile Crocodiles of Sudan, settled for a 1-1 draw against Congo, before whipping Nigeria 4-0 in their 2nd match.

In another match to be staged simultaneously at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, Congo’s Red Devils will battle the already eliminated Super Eagles of Nigeria.

A victory for Congo will see them progress, while a draw will see them eliminated, as they have 2 points from their opening two matches.

Group D winners will take on Algeria in the quarter-final this Saturday, while the team that finishes 2nd will be up against Group C winners Uganda in another last-8 match up on Saturday.
